The four-time defending WPIAL champion Butler Girls Track & Field team rolled into the WPIAL Team Finals Wednesday with victories over Blackhawk 115-35 and Franklin Regional 124-26. Senior Captain Alli Morrow again led the Golden Tornado with four first place finishes. She won the Long Jump, 100 Dash and was part of the winning 4×100 Relay and 4×400 Relay. Her Long Jump of 18-3 was 1 inch short of tying Annessa’s Steele’s school record from 1999. Ava Brewster won the 1600 and 3200. Lauren Bowden won the 300 Hurdles, Jen Cichra the 800 and Megan Baggetta won the Triple Jump. In the throws – Celia Ray won the Discus and Megan Penrod the Javelin. Rounding out the first place finishers for Butler was Ashlyn Holt in the Pole Vault.
The Girl’s will now take on Norwin, South Fayette and North Allegheny for the WPIAL Class AAA Team Championship on Wednesday, May 11 at West Mifflin High School.
Butler Boys Track and Field Team swept through the WPIAL Team Semi-Finals yesterday on their home track. Defeating Blackhawk 117 to 33….and defeating Franklin Regional 124-26.
Double winners came from Presley Ornelas winning both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, and Jacob Pomykata winning the Shot Put and Discus. With Butler winning all 3 Relays.
The Boys track Team advance into the final 4 Team Finals next Wednesday at West Mifflin against Norwin, North Allegheny and Mt Lebanon, as they try to defend their WPIAL Title from last year.
