Butler Township Commissioners are making their opposition known to a proposed utility rate increase.
The Commissioners have authorized a letter to be sent from them to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission concerning rate increases proposed by both Columbia Gas and Pennsylvania American Water.
“The proposed gas rate increase for a residential customers would be 17.84% increase. The increase for a small commercial customer would be 15.58%. And the rate increase for a small industrial customer would 13.17%,” Commissioner Fred Vero said. “With Pennsylvania American Water, the residential increase would amount over two years of 11.88%.”
Vero went on to mention that he has heard from many Butler Township residents about this proposal and particularly the timing with many local people dealing with reduced income due to COVID-19.
Vero would like to see Columbia Gas and Pennsylvania American Water reconsider these proposed rate increases and hopes that the formal complaint filed with the PUC will contribute to that outcome.
