Nearly 50 Butler Township residents took part in a nationwide initiative Tuesday to connect municipal officials and employees with volunteers and local residents.
National Night Out is an annual event promoting police-community partnerships and camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer. Butler Township police officers, firefighters and township commissioners met with residents in the Holland Drive area of Butler Township Tuesday.
According to Butler Township Commissioner Dave Zarnick, visiting local neighborhoods is one way that township officials are reaching out to connect with residents.
“I think it’s very important for local elected officials to get out and meet our residents,” Zarnick said. “Sometimes they don’t like to come to our meetings, they feel out of place. So we go out into the public, we meet with our residents, we listen to them and hear the good and the complaints. That’s what this is all about.”
Butler Township Commissioners usually meet two Monday evenings each month and residents are invited to participate through the public to be heard portion of the meetings.
