Butler Township is applying for grant money in order to make improvements to local parks.
Township Commissioners passed a motion earlier this week to comply with the requirements of the Butler County Parks Renovation Program in order to file their application before it is due later this month.
According to Township Manager Tom Knights, the money will go towards trail signs at Sawmill Run Park, replacement of a stove at the Township Park, and event signs at Preston Park.
Under this program, the township is responsible for 25 percent of the cost of the project, in this case about $2,300 and Butler County pays for the remaining $6,900. The township has previously received money through this grant to pay for picnic tables and portable pickleball nets.
Once the application has been submitted, a committee from the county is expected to review requests and decide which ones can be funded with notification issued sometime in late April.
