The Pennsylvania Football Writers have released their “All-State” teams. Pine-Richland quarterback Phil Jurkovec has been named the Class 6A “player of the year”. He is joined by four other teammates. Butler offensive lineman Jake Kradel, a Pitt recruit, was also named to the 6A team. Pine-Richland’s Eric Kasperowicz was named “coach of the year”.
Monday Night Football: Atlanta defeated Tampa Bay 24-21. The Falcons improved to 8-5 overall to remain one game behind Carolina and New Orleans in the NFC South with two games remaining in the regular season. The Atlanta victory officially eliminated Green Bay from the post-season, for the first time since 2008.
Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner had knee surgery for a torn MCL Monday.
Robert Morris has hired Bernard Clark as its new head coach. Clark is a former linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengals and Seattle Seahawks. He also coached under Dave Wannstedt at Pitt. Most recently he was the defensive coordinator for Albany. Clark replaces John Banaszak who resigned after the season.
