William Byron won his second consecutive Daytona 500 late last night. He avoided two late race wrecks which allowed him to drive from ninth-place to the victory on the final lap. He became the first back-to-back winner of the Nascar Cup Series season-opening race since the 2019 – 2020 seasons. The start of the race Sunday had been moved up an hour, but still was rain-delayed nearly four hours after running just over 10 laps. The win was the 10th Daytona 500 for Hendrick Motorsports to break a tie for the all-time lead with Petty Enterprises. Tyler Reddick was the runner-up, followed by seven-time Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson.
The drivers head to Atlanta this Sunday. Hear coverage on WBUT beginning at 2pm.
