Butler County saw population growth according to the latest Census data, but some officials say an omitted piece of information on Census forms is causing grant funding issues.
Community Development Block Grants are a state sponsored program that helps municipality with projects like housing rehabilitation and infrastructure.
The program typically helps communities with low to moderate incomes, however the latest Census did not include an income category, which makes it difficult to identify those areas.
Butler County’s CDBG Coordinator Wendy Leslie says the state is conducting random surveys to help clarify that data, but it’s still a challenge when doing the grant writing.
