After a preliminary hearing yesterday charges against former Butler School Board member Bill Halle will hold after a new witness testified.
During the hearing at the Butler City Magistrate office, Ann Ireland who served on the board of directors for the Grace Youth and Family Foundation since 2014 testified that Halle was running the Battleground fitness program at the GYFF after Halle’s son left for another job in October of 2022.
Ireland could confirm the victim worked at the net cafe at the GYFF building as a 1099 employee but she could not confirm if the victim was part of the Battleground program.
Halle’s lawyer also argued that alleged cell phone text messages between Halle and the victim cannot be proven to be from the victim. But, text messages from the phone also show a picture of the victim with a mini fridge that was purchased by Halle. Halle is alleged to have bought the mini fridge for the victim to store “weekend meals, protein bars, and different supplements” due to their participation in the Battleground program.
During the final statements Halle’s lawyer also argued that there is no law against a 17 year old and 58 year old having a sexual relationship. Claiming that due to schools teaching sex education there is only a “moral objection” but Judge William Fullerton said that was for the jury to decide.
Fullerton ruled all charges would hold and a formal arraignment was scheduled for July 9th.
