A Chicora man is out thousands after falling victim to an online scam.
Police say the incident happened in October when a man received a fake email from someone claiming to be Microsoft. The message said that malware was found on his computer.
The victim then called the number provided on the email and talked with who he thought was Microsoft.
The man was told by scammers to send $9,000 in the form of Bitcoin.
Police say no company will ever request payment in gift cards, digital currency, or money in order to restore services.
