The City of Butler is continuing to pursue state funding to make improvements at a local park.
At their Tuesday meeting Council voted to approve a resolution to be submitted with a grant application to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for a project at Father Marinaro Park.
Director of Parks, Recreation, and Public Property Councilman Jeff Smith explains more about the improvements that are planned to begin next year and be completed sometime the year after.
“It would address the ADA access issues there. It would put in new playground equipment there other than a couple of swings, we really don’t have any playground equipment,” Smith said. “It would put in a second softball field. The softball league thinks they will be able to attract some tournaments there.”
Smith also added that the basketball court would be resurfaced and redo the parking lot, which Smith added is “in pretty bad shape.”
If the grant is received, half of the $200,000 project will be paid for with local matching funds including $50,000 that the city received last year as part of the sale of the property that used to be the Southside Playground as well as Community Development Block Grant funding.
