The City of Butler has accepted a bid from a company to clean out Sullivan Run following ongoing flooding.
An agreement is now in place with Bauer Excavating at a cost of just over $5,000. This is the lowest of three bids received for the project.
This project is expected to take place in the next three weeks and will clean out branches and trees to allow for improved water flow and volume. City employees are not able to handle the scope of the work required due to the need for a large excavator.
The city also contracted with Bauer two years ago to clean out a portion of Sullivan Run at a cost of nearly $20,000. The city anticipates a more extensive $4 million Sullivan Run Channel Improvement Project beginning sometime early this fall that officials say would greatly reduce the frequency and severity of flooding.
