The City of Butler is applying for grant money in order to make improvements to a local park.
City Council passed a motion Thursday night to authorize a commitment letter for the Butler County Redevelopment DCED Blight Remediation Grant Program.
Director of Parks, Recreation and Public Property Councilman Jeff Smith said the city wants to tear down the old pool house and fill in the swimming pool at Memorial Park.
“We have been working with Community Development Corporation and Redevelopment Authority for well over a year to remove these eye sores from a bygone era of the city,” Smith said. “This is a project that people have talked about for years, and now thanks to that cooperation between the county and the city, there’s a good chance it’ll get done.”
Under this program, the city would put up about $10,000 of the $100,000 necessary to complete the project.
Once the application has been submitted tomorrow, a committee from the DCED is expected to decide which projects will receive funding sometime in late September.
