A Butler man who killed a dog was sentenced yesterday in Butler County.
In January 2024, a Butler City woman reported that her home was burglarized but the only thing stolen was her dog. She accused 28-year-old Joseph Hillard, who initially denied the allegations, but later admitted to the crime a year later.
Yesterda,y Hillard pled guilty and was sentenced to 12 to 35 months in prison with 24 months of probation after his release. He will also receive an estimated seven months of time served.
Upon his release Hillard will be barred from owning or being possession of any animal, 25 hours of community service, no contact with the victim, and pay $3,039 in fines and restitution.
