The City of Butler will purchase a new ladder truck for the fire department but has not yet finalized a payment option.
At their meeting Tuesday night, City Council approved an agreement with Glick Fire Equipment Company for a 2021 Pierce Arrow XT 100 foot Mid-Mount Tower Ladder at a cost of just under $1.35 million.
Council also considered a motion to enter into an agreement with a lending institution to borrow the money but ultimately tabled that motion to allow more time to figure out if early payment dealer discounts or delaying interest payments until the truck is received would end up saving the city more money.
Council also considered leasing agreements but determined the best deal to be this purchasing agreement. Delivery of the truck is expected in approximately 10 months.
The city sold its partially-functioning ladder truck in June 2018. Since then, the city has relied on a ladder truck owned by the Butler Township Fire Department when necessary.
