The City of Butler has settled a lawsuit filed by a retired Captain of the City Fire Department.
At their meeting Thursday night, Council approved a settlement agreement and general release with Donald Crawford.
Attorneys for Crawford filed suit in February of 2023 demanding payment for lost wages he would have earned if he was promoted according to city regulations. The suit contended that the city passed over Crawford for promotions as well as ignored his claims of harassment. The City alleged that Crawford engaged in “inappropriate and unprofessional conduct.”
Crawford was promoted to the rank of Captain by a vote of City Council in August 2024 before Council approved Crawford’s retirement at their meeting in October of 2024.
The lawsuit filed in the Court of Common Pleas is now over. No further details were made public but Mayor Bob Dandoy did say that he was “happy to move on.”
