Butler City Council is holding another gathering later this week in order to continue discussions about a plan that would establish a Rental Inspection Ordinance and Program within the city.
The gathering will take place tomorrow (Thursday) at 6 p.m. at the Holly Pointe building and discussions will pick up where they left off at the end of the first meeting in November.
According to Councilman Don Shearer, no changes have been made to his original proposal but he is willing to consider alternatives.
The program would only trigger a required inspection when a new tenant moves into a property or if the property has been formally identified as a nuisance. The city would incur administrative costs but those would be paid for using the fees from the inspections.
A Council vote on the proposal is expected to take place sometime over the next couple months and if passed, an effective date of at least six months after that would be set to allow property owners a chance to address issues.
