The Cleveland Guardians handed the Pittsburgh Pirates their fifth consecutive defeat following a 10-1 victory last night at PNC Park. After making his first All-Star appearance last week, Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller was hammered for five runs in the first inning. He would go on to pitch six innings, but allowed eight earned runs on 10 hits. He walked two and struck out just one batter.
The Pirates managed just five singles in the game, and struck out 11 times. Newcomers Endy Rodriguez and Liover Peguero were a combined 0-for-6 with six strikeouts. Rookie Henry Davis committed his third error in right field.
In the first two games with catcher Rodriguez behind the plate, Pirates pitchers have allowed 21 runs.
The Bucs and Guardians complete their three-game series this afternoon at 12:35pm. WISR will join the pre-game after the Noon News. Rich Hill will start for the Pirates.
The Pirates have an off-day Thursday, then head to California to face the Los Angeles Angels for three games this weekend. Star Shohei Ohtani is scheduled to start against the Pirates Friday night.
