Cleveland Cliffs is creating a new electrical distribution transformer production plant in Weirton, West Virginia.
The company announced the $150 million investment yesterday, with the anticipation it will create 600 new jobs in the area.
It comes just months after the closure of a tin production plant in Weirton, which cost the area hundreds of jobs.
Cliffs officials say the recent guidelines approved by the Department of Energy “support the long-term utilization of highly-efficient American-made Grain Oriented Electrical Steel,” which is also produced in Butler.
The plant is expected to open in early 2026.
