Cleveland Cliffs is weighing in on statements made by the U.S. Steel board as their sale to Nippon Steel remains up in the air.
Cliffs officials say that “it is unfortunate that U.S. Steel is just now realizing that it announced an un-closeable deal.”
The organization also added that the United Steelworkers union would only support a deal to an American-based company.
Cleveland Cliffs said they made an offer to purchase U.S. Steel before the Nippon deal was reached.
Cliffs says the final offer is “now expired,” with its company president also adding his belief that the deal with Nippon “will not close.”
