Temperatures were near record lows Thursday night and the Butler area is expected to push that number again tonight.
There are some parts of Butler County that hit lows in the double digits, which is the coldest January overnight lows since 2019. Karns City officially registered at -18 below as of 6 a.m. Some areas were reportedly even colder.
The potential record-setting cold will return again tonight, with projected lows of -13.
National Weather Service officials say to use caution still while traveling, and to wear gloves and hats while outside.
