Penn Township will take more time to consider new ordinances that would allow for property owners to be fined for unsafe structures or items deemed rubbish.
Over 200 people packed into Penn Township’s Tuesday meeting to express concern about moving forward with the proposed ordinances as currently written.
Nearly 20 people spoke in opposition to the new rules including three who believed that township officials were targeting them and two who stated that they are planning to run for Penn Township Supervisor.
If ordinances were to be passed, state law mandates that any violations would go before the district magistrate to determine an appropriate punishment. After about 90 minutes of hearing from residents, supervisors voted unanimously to table the ordinances from their agenda. This means these ordinances are expected to be back on the Supervisors’ agenda for their meeting in May.
