Butler County is moving forward with a plan to secure funding for the Gateway 228 Project as well as the Butler County Bridge Rehabilitation Program.
At their meeting on Wednesday, the Board of Commissioners approved an application to the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Bank in the amount of just over $5 million.
Nearly $3 million of that total would serve as the local match for a $20 million federal grant through the U.S. Department of Transportation BUILD Transportation Discretionary Grant Program. This would allow for improvements the Route 228 corridor on Freedom Road from Haine-School Road to the Beaver County line in Cranberry Township.
The remaining money being requested would be used as a required local match for a $2 million PennDOT project to replace bridges around the county including Hemphill Bridge on Goldscheitter Road in Clinton Township, Greece City Bridge on Old State Road in Concord Township, and McBride Bridges 1 and 2 on Dalmagro Road in Clearfield Township.
