Butler County Commissioners are recognizing the month of June as Dairy Month.
At yesterday’s public meeting, commissioners issued a proclamation with members of the Butler Dairy Court. The commissioners cited the dairy industry’s economic and cultural importance to the county.
This year’s Dairy Princess, Daisy Snow of Mars, spoke at the meeting and expressed her appreciation to the commissioners.
“I am blessed to be in a long line of dairy princesses that have stood before you and it’s the example that people like [the commissioners] have set that make us on the dairy promotion court want to work hard,” Snow said.
Commissioners noted that the number of dairy farms has been steadily declining in the county. Back in 1969, there were 369 total dairy farms in Butler. That number is now down to 24.
