Butler County is contracting with an attorney to help clarify some municipal codes on the difference between a condo and a townhouse.
County officials say the language is a bit vague when it comes to what constitutes a condo or a townhouse. But, the reason they are searching for an answer comes down to taxes.
With condos, the developer is responsible for paying the tax on the land. While in a townhouse, the homeowner has the land below and is then charged with taxes.
County officials hope to clear up the language to help provide better clarity for developers and municipalities.
