County commissioners approved their public meeting schedule for 2022 earlier this week. Typically, it’s a simple vote for commissioners, but things were a little different this time.
The county’s public meetings take place every other Wednesday at 10 a.m. inside the county government center. Usually, these meetings are limited to just county employees and maybe a few citizens.
However, dozens of people have now shown up recently to speak during the public comment session about the 2020 election.
Some people say they have to take days off work to show up and were hoping the meetings would be moved to the evenings.
The commissioners said that running evening meetings would come at a large expense for the county and that certain employees would have to be paid overtime to stay. The county’s solicitor also noted that the commissioners are also at other meetings typically during the evenings.
The commissioners noted that they could change start times to meetings in the future if necessary.
