Butler County has officially entered into an agreement with Emergency Service Providers and Independence Health System to help train more advance life support providers.
This is the formalized agreement to create the new EMS Academy, which will be based out of Butler County Community College.
According to officials, the county lacks around 120 EMS workers but the new agreement will pay for training and testing for an accelerated schooling.
To get the licenses and training required to become an EMS worker, it would traditionally take six months on top of paying out of pocket expenses. According to the agreement, training will be daily including a once a week eight hour clinical for eight total weeks of training and all expenses with the courses will be paid.
The only requirement will be that once certified, workers must spend at least one year working in Butler County. There will be two classes every year for 12 students per semester. The fall semester class has already begun to fill seats.
The county will provide no more than $600,000 in the agreement and it begins on July 1st and ends in December of 2026.
