Butler County has ended a lawsuit filed by former Commissioner Jim Eckstein four years ago seeking reimbursement of legal fees.
The County will pay Eckstein $100,000 of the $270,000 he originally requested for the defense of defamation suits filed by another former Commissioner and a county employee.
The current Board of Commissioners issued the following statement: “It is time for our County and its current and former employees as well as residents whose lives were disrupted by previous actions to put this behind us. Today, we are focusing on projects that improve services, the workplace, safety, and the economy. No good will come of continuing with this case. It ends today.”
None of the current commissioners were involved with the various cases and prior defamation claims that were made. The Commissioners also said that no further comment will be issued on this subject.
