A new piece of equipment available to county law enforcement will help detect illegal substances in a quicker fashion.
County Commissioners approved the purchase of a “handheld mass spectrometer chemical detection system.” According to officials this will allow officers to quickly identify substances to ensure safety for those dealing with the chemicals.
The detector will be available for use by the sheriff’s office, the prison, and drug enforcement officers.
Also, officials say a majority of machine’s usage will result in treatment outcomes for the offenders, including the state’s Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative.
