A local man is facing charges related to a fire that occurred earlier this weekend in the City of Butler.
According to the Butler City Police, crews were called to a fire at a vacant Broad Street home around 6:40am on Saturday. Soon after, the fire spread to a neighboring home before it was extinguished.
After their arrival, police were approached by a witness who provided a description of a man seen leaving the back of the home where the fire started. Police identified the suspect as 24-year-old Victor Weltner of Butler.
Authorities later located Weltner, who smelled of smoke and had a laceration on his arm. Police also determined that the suspect was intoxicated.
During their investigation, police say that Weltner broke into the home through a rear window. After determining that the home was unoccupied, Weltner allegedly spent a period of time inside before setting the kitchen curtains on fire. He then fled the scene after the fire began to rapidly spread.
Weltner faces charges of Arson – Endangering Persons and Burglary.
