Firefighters across Butler County were busy with several woods and field fires Wednesday afternoon.
After battling a lawn fire that spread to a garage in Jackson Township shortly after noon, crews were called out shortly before 1 p.m. for a woods fire approaching a residence in Middlesex Township.
Four additional fires were reported shortly before 5 p.m. including a grass and brush fire near a burn-barrel in Butler Township, a brush fire in Slippery Rock Township, and a fire near some woods in Saxonburg Borough. Multiple departments spent nearly two hours fighting a blaze along Jones Road in Penn Township that quickly spread from a lawnmower to a large brush area to a barn and resulted in explosions.
Dry and windy weather can make this a dangerous time of year for brush and grass fires around our area and if conditions are right, fires can start easily.
