The Chicago Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-3 Thursday afternoon and took two of three games in their series. Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes allowed a career-high four walks, and also allowed a career-high three home runs, with all of the round-trippers coming in the fifth inning. His record fell to 3-3 this season.
For the second straight game, the Pirates built a 2-0 lead, but they managed only five hits in the game. They were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Bryan Reynolds gave the Bucs an early lead with his fourth home run of the season in the first inning. They are now 12-20 this season.
The Pirates open a three-game series with the San Diego Padres tonight at 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm. Mitch Keller will start for the Pirates tonight. This game is being televised on Apple-Plus.
