As temperatures begin to drop and Pennsylvania remains under it’s seasonal rainfall total one government agency is urging caution.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is urging Pennsylvanians to exercise caution when burning.
According to the DCNR, 99 percent of wildfires in Pennsylvania are started due to human activity.
Fuel sources for a wild fire can be dried grass or leaves, a single ignition source is the only thing need to potentially start a wildfire.
Some forestry tips to prevent wildfires while starting a fire include:
- Clearing the area before starting a burn
- Keep fires small and never leave them unattended
- Consider if the conditions are ripe for the threat of a larger fire
- Keep a water source nearby to put out the fire if needed
- When finished douse the fire with water
Additional guidelines and burn information can be found on the DCNR website.
