The New York Yankees defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 1-0 Sunday in Grapefruit League play. Martin Perez did not allow a run in his three innings of work to complete his pre-season. He allowed one hit. David Bednar allowed the lone Yankees run in the fourth inning. Perez allowed one run over four spring training starts.
The Bucs host Toronto in Bradenton this afternoon in their final exhibition game. Marco Gonzales will start today’s game. The Pirates open their season Thursday in Miami.
The Pirates will be without reliever Colin Holderman to start the regular season. Holderman was hit hard by an illness that went through the team’s clubhouse during the pre-season and will begin the season on the Injured List.
Chase Anderson was released from his minor league deal with the Pirates and signed a one-year contract with the Boston Red Sox.
