The Pennsylvania Game Commission says there was an approximately six percent increase in the deer harvest this past hunting season.
The new numbers released showed that Pennsylvania hunters took down nearly 506,000 white-tailed deer and around 185,000 of those were bucks.
Locally, Butler County is split into two different wildlife management units. Those units had an estimated combined harvest of just over 68,000 deer.
In order to reduce deer numbers, either because deer were negatively impacting forest health, or because Chronic Wasting Disease is present and increasing harvest might slow the spread, the Game Commission offered additional antlerless licenses last season.
