NBA Playoffs:
The Denver Nuggets beat the L.A. Clippers 104-89 in the deciding Game-7 of their playoff series to advance to the Western Conference finals for the first time since 2009. They will face the Los Angeles Lakers. The Nuggets became the first NBA team in history to come back twice from a 3-1 series deficit.
The Miami Heat opened their Eastern Conference Championship Series with a 117-114 overtime win over the Boston Celtics.
Stanley Cup Playoffs:
–The New York Islanders remained alive in the Eastern Conference final with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning still lead the series 3-2. The winner of this series will meet the Dallas Stars in the Stanley Cup final in Edmonton.
The Washington Capitals have hired Peter Laviolette as their new head coach. He is the first Stanley Cup-winning coach the Caps have hired in their 46-year history. Laviolette led the Carolina Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup in 2006 and has led Philadelphia and Nashville to the final.
