The Department of Environmental Protection has announced that a permit backlog has been eliminated for the first time in 15 years.
Last week the DEP announced that a backlog of more than 2400 permits had been reviewed and acted on.
Over 30,000 permits applications have been processed just in the last year.
According to the DEP, the increase of permit processing has been due to modernizing the permit process, adding an additional 225 employees, and the Payback program which pays back permit fees if an action wasn’t taken on a permit in certain amount of time.
The DEP also launched a Permit Tracker site to show an application is in the process of being acted on.
