The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has proposed two new permit updates to prevent “forever chemicals” to pollute farm fields and ground water.
Under the new rules, wastewater treatment facilities will have to monitor for “forever chemicals” (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances; PFAS) in any biosolids they produce for land application.
The second rule the wastewater facility to also to develop a plan to reduce the PFOA in wastewater.
A 60-day comment period opened on July 1 and closes on September 2.
