The state Department of Aging is creating a new unit that will help investigate the financial scams against elderly residents.
They’re known as the Financial Abuse Specialist Team and Aging Secretary Robert Torres says they will be tasked with investigated complex fraud cases.
“This team will serve as a shared resource for area agencies on aging,” Torres said. “They will assist in investigating cases of financial exploitation of older adults.”
Torres says financial exploitation is becoming one of the fastest growing types of elder abuse.
