A member of Governor Josh Shaprio’s administration was in Butler yesterday advocating for more funding for behavioral health and crisis services.
Department of Human Services Secretary Val Arkoosh visited the Center for Community Resources and the walk-in crisis service center yesterday. Arkoosh is pushing for support for future funding and sharing how counties can effectively use the money.
“I share ideas with other counties. I talk about how great a program like this is in Butler and share that story with another county across the state,” Arkoosh said. “It’s really that sharing of ideas, and how people are effectively using the very scarce dollars they have, and how they can make use of those dollars.”
In last year’s budget an additional $20 million was added for county mental health base funding, now the governor is looking for another $20 million this year and next.
He’s also seeking an additional $10 million for crisis call centers and $5 million to establish and maintain walk-in mental health crisis centers for areas they may not have a facility.
The last increase in funding last year saw the county get over $200,000, according to officials with the county.
