The state House and Senate has passed a bill that would designate a new state holiday.
The bills would make Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights, an official state holiday.
The bills passed with near unanimous support, with advocates saying Pennsylvania is home to over 200,000 South Asian residents.
Diwali will be observed on November 12th this year.
