The U.S. Department of Justice is warning residents of scams involving fake surveys about getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to the DOJ, these surveys promise a prize or cash in exchange for completing the survey but the surveys are actually used to steal personal information as well as money from participants.
The surveys often come through email or text message and participants are asked to provide credit card information to pay for shipping and handling fees on prizes they never receive.
When in doubt, do not rely on the contact information in the message. Instead, contact the agency or company directly to find out more about a survey or offer. Those who believe they may have been a victim of fraud like this can contact the National Center for Disaster Fraud.
