The driver of a school bus and a student died in a multi-vehicle bus crash Tuesday afternoon on I-79.
Our news partners at WPXI-TV are reporting that the student was a 14-year-old girl and the driver was 31 years old.
The call came into the Butler County 911 Center shortly after 4:30 p.m. for a school bus that had run into the back of a truck on I-79 near mile marker 99 in Worth Township. Video from the scene showed significant damage to the bus.
Crews from Slippery Rock, Portersville, Prospect, and Unionville were among those sent to the scene to provide assistance. Early reports were that at least two children and the bus driver were entrapped.
Several students needed to be flown to a Pittsburgh Hospital for treatment of “severe to moderate injuries”. The students on the bus were from Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in Beaver County.
