Butler County voters will be electing a new judge for the Court of Common Pleas next week, and there will be two candidates on the ballot.
Local attorney Joe Kubit won both the Republican and Democratic primaries in the spring, and says he will be thorough if he’s elected judge.
“I will spend the time, the effort, the scholarship, the energy to carefully analyze the facts and the circumstance that appear before me, recognizing that the people who will appear before me are impacted by the decisions that I will make,” Kubit.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Gilliland-Vanasdale is running as an independent candidate, and is promising change if she’s elected.
“I believe that change is needed in the courthouse, and I’ve been pretty vocal about that for the last four years,” Gilliland-Vanasdale said. “Our court system needs to be faster, and fairer for all. And so I really want to get in there and show that one judge can really make a difference.”
A seat is open on the court after current judge Tom Doerr announced he would not be running again.
