As the holiday shopping season kicks into full gear, the FBI is urging shoppers to be careful with their personal information.
Scammers are active this time of year in their efforts to steal your money and personal info.
The FBI say some prevalent scams this year include:
- Non-delivery scams where you purchase goods but those are never delivered.
- Non-payment scams where the items are shipped, but the seller is never paid.
- Auction fraud schemes that involve a seller misrepresenting the condition of an item on an auction.
- Gift card fraud have scammers steal numbers and security codes from gift cards in stores and wait for them to be activated.
The FBI says state residents lost nearly $9 million in non-payment and non-delivery schemes last year.
