FBI officials are looking for victims of what is known as the “grandparent scam.”
According to the FBI, these scams have been happening more and more in recent months.
The scam works when you get a phone call out of the blue from someone who identifies themselves as your grandchild. The scammer then pleads with grandparent about being arrested, in trouble, or stuck somewhere.
They then ask for you to send them money.
The FBI has found that victims have lost $50,000 through this scam in Western Pennsylvania.
If you’ve fallen victim to this scam, you’re asked to visit ic3.gov to file a complaint.
