The FBI is warning of scammers targeting senior citizens demanding funds by wire, mail, or couriers.
Scammers will pose as the victim’s grandchild in jail after a car accident with a pregnant woman or diplomat. Shortly after a scammer posing as attorney will request money for legal fees.
To prevent being scammed by these scams, do not answer calls from unknown numbers, verify stories with the family member in question or another member, and finally, if someone do not release financial or information or send money to someone you do not know.
From January to September of this year nearly 200 complaints have been filled dur to this scam, resulting in $1.9 million in victim losses.
