September is National Preparedness Month and the Federal Emergency Management Agency is encouraging residents to take action.
This year’s campaign is focused on preparing older adults and their caregivers who may have specific needs following a disaster.
In an effort to stay ready, FEMA representatives recommend planning for transportation in the event of evacuation orders, making copies of Medicare, Medicaid, or insurance cards, and communicating with medical facilities about any routine treatments.
Disaster preparedness also includes making an emergency supply kit and providing caregivers with necessary information. Pets or service animals should also be included in any emergency plans.
