Fire officials are urging caution in the kitchen ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
There were over 1,400 home cooking fires in the U.S. on Thanksgiving Day in 2023. That’s up 388 percent compared to the daily average.
Officials offer a couple of tips to help prevent fires:
- Never leave the kitchen while cooking on the stovetop.
- Keep flammable things away from cooking areas.
- Cook with a lid beside your pan.
The National Fire Protection Association also strongly discourages the use of turkey fryers, which can cause serious issues.
