Five people are displaced following a fire Monday in Franklin Township.
The one-story home on North Road was badly damaged in the blaze, which started in the basement about 6:45 a.m.
“When we first arrived on scene, we had heavy-to-moderate smoke coming from the basement area. Tight-living conditions were a hazard to us,” Prospect Volunteer Fire Chief Ken Wilson said Monday.
No one was hurt but a couple of pet cats are believed to have died in the fire.
Damage to the home is estimated at between $40,000 to $50,000 and the home is not currently livable. The Red Cross is assisting five adults.
About 30 firefighters from five departments were on scene Monday for about three hours.
