Saturday is Valentine’s Day and some people are considering chocolates and balloons for a loved one.
But First Energy reminds everyone about the danger helium-filled foil balloons can pose to power lines.
Because foil balloons have a metallic coating, they can cause power outages if they connect with power lines.
Last year, West Penn Power experienced five outages as a result of foil balloons.
Those who are considering gifting foil balloons this year should securely tie them to a weight to prevent them from floating away as well as puncture and deflate them when done with them.
